What is the meaning of "ero" in Japanese?

Ero is short form of Eros (エロス).
This word appeared late in Japan. It seemed エロスcould only be read in academic writings. People have invented a hybrid adjective Eroi (エロい), denoting erotic. Ir became popular among civil.
Thus エロ can be noun and adjective.
Why would a person who is educated and skillful still find it hard to get a better job?
